Choosing a Horse Camp for Your Child

Horse camp is all about safety, knowledge, and fun.  When choosing a camp for your child, you will want to make sure your child is going to have a positive experience and you will get the most of your time and money.  Here are some things to consider:

  • Safety! - Look for a camp with a great safety record.  They should have an experienced and safety conscious staff.  The staff should be first aid/ CPR certified.
  • Staff- Knowledgeable, well trained, fun instructors make the camp experience.
  • Feel- Give your gut feeling credit.  Do the horses seem well cared for? Do they have a variety of horses for different ability levels?
  • History- Has the business been around for a while? Does the camp have a strong return rate?
  • Time with the Horses- If the camp is horse specific, all day should be learning and fun with horses.
  • Student/Instructor Ratio-  Low ratios of instructor to student and limited class sizes allow for more safety, learning, and fun!
  • Overnight vs. Day- Going to spend the night at camp may sound fun, but students tend to be able to focus better when they go home and get a good night sleep in their own bed.  Horse camp takes a lot of concentration and a good night sleep is important.
  • Going with or without a friend- Horse Camp is a great place to meet new friends! Typically by the middle of the first day the campers are all having fun together and are able to make life long friends from their week at camp.

SUMMER HORSE DAY CAMPS

We offer 1, 2, 3, and 5 day camps for every skill level. Our camps fill quickly, so contact us in February for openings or request to be added to our mailing list. Mailings go first to those who have been in our day camps previously and will have the opportunity to register first. Camps are offered throughout the year—primarily in the summer, but also during spring and winter vacations. Our sister stable, Woodloch, is located in Hugo and also offers five day camps. Please contact them at 651-429-1303 for dates available throughout the summer.
